Team Selected for Topaz Skate and Bike Park Project

A world-leading team has been selected for the design and build of a new skate and bike park in Victoria’s Topaz Park. The Vancouver-based team of New Line Skateparks, van der Zalm + associates, and Alpine Bike Parks was selected for the $3 million project through a public competition.

“To attract a team of this caliber is pretty exciting and speaks to the passion in our community for skateboarding and cycling,” said Mayor Lisa Helps. “We heard a lot of community support for a skate and bike park during the development of the 10-year Topaz Park Improvement Plan, and now we’re making it a reality.”

The New Line team brings a wealth of experience, passion and expertise for designing and building internationally renowned municipal park facilities. Together, the team has completed more than 300 highly recognized projects across Canada, the United States, Europe, Asia, and Australia over the last 20 years.

The core team is comprised of landscape architects, engineers, arborists, community outreach specialists, and construction professionals who are also high-level skateboarders and BMX/mountain biking enthusiasts. The team also includes gender equity, accessibility, and youth programming experts to ensure the new skate and bike park meets the wide-ranging needs of the community.

Council approved the skate and bike park in January 2020 as part of the long-term renewal plan for Topaz park. The 3,000 square metre skate park and 6,000 square metre bike park will provide a fun and challenging riding experience for all skill levels.

The final designs will be developed with input from community stakeholders. Construction is expected to be complete in summer 2022.
