Vancouver Street Lane Closure Starts April 6

The northbound travel lane on the 1400 block of Vancouver Street, between Johnson Street and Pandora Avenue, will be closed to vehicle traffic starting Tuesday, April 6.

This single lane closure will support construction at two major development projects on the west side of Vancouver Street for approximately 18 months. Providing additional space on Vancouver Street helps to minimize traffic impacts and delays on Johnson Street while cranes, concrete trucks and construction vehicles build a total of 214 new rental units in the downtown core. Along with new ground floor commercial units, these new projects support expanded sidewalks, a new landscaped boulevard, public seating, metered parking, commercial loading and protected bike lanes.

Road paving at the intersection of Pandora and Vancouver started today and will extend into early next week including the installation of a landscaped northbound traffic diverter. The work will connect two All Ages and Abilities cycling routes as a part of the City’s 32 km network.

The southbound vehicle lane on Vancouver, between Pandora and Johnson, will remain open and temporary protected bike lanes will be installed on each side of the road during the construction period. Pedestrian and wheelchair access will be maintained at all times. Once construction activities are complete at the two development sites, permanent bike lanes will be installed as a part of the approved Vancouver Street project design.
