Thank you to Greater Victorians who voted in the 2014 Best of the City awards. We are humbled by your appreciation, and after winning so many awards, it looks like we are going to need to clear off some wall space!
We’re #1! And #2, and #3… in the Best Free Fun category! The jewel of our parks system, Beacon Hill Park, comes in at #1, with our gorgeous Inner Harbour and Dallas Road taking home second and third place honours. It’s not hard to see why.
The people have spoken, and the best place to walk your dog is along Dallas Road. Apparently the third best place to walk your dog is in Beacon Hill Park (on a leash, of course)!
We also took home the top two honours in the Best Place to Spot a Ghost category. #1 is Ross Bay Cemetery and #2 is Bastion Square. Craigdarroch Castle, also in the City of Victoria, took home the #3 spot. We’re also home to many other ghost-spotting locations according to “Haunted Victoria”, the downtown heritage walking tour map. So it seems we have our fair share of haunted history.
In the Best Place to Spot a Celebrity category, voters determined Government Street and the Inner Harbour to be the #2 and #3 best spots, with the Fairmont Empress taking top honours. This was evident when the street was flush with celebrities back in 2012 when we announced the naming of David Foster Way in the Inner Harbour, on Government Street, across from the Fairmont Empress.
The Inner Harbour also took home the #2 award for Best Place to Take a Tourist, and Crystal Pool won #3 in the Best Swimming Pool category.
So whether you work, play, visit, walk or are looking to spot celebrities and ghosts in Victoria, we would like to take the time to say thank you! In the words of Sally Fields, you like us, you really like us!
