Honorary Citizen Award

The Statement of Nomination is the most important part in the nomination package, as it is the nominator’s opportunity to describe the nominee.

In a maximum of four pages, please describe how the nominee:

1.  Is a leader and/or role model
2.  Has broken new ground or old barriers
3.  Provides significant mentorship
4.  Provides inspiration to others 
5.  Contributes to and helps build a strong community in the City of Victoria (Capital Region)
6.  Brings honour and/or fame to the City of Victoria (Capital Region)
   
   Please be sure to include a photo of the nominee suitable for publication.
   
   Nominators are welcome to include information and dates describing organizational involvement, achievements, recognition, volunteer activities, as well as supporting documents such as photographs, news clippings, and/or Curriculum Vitae.

There are three ways to submit your nomination package:

3.  By Mail: print and mail package to:

Format Requirements: 

1. Submissions must be on US Letter (8 ½“X 11”) paper, in 12-pt font, single-spaced, and single-sided.
2. Please photocopy all supporting documents before submitting. Do not include original photos or newspaper clippings.
3. Electronics submissions must be saved as a DOC, DOCX, or PDF file only.

The selection is based on the information specified above and submitted in the nomination package. If any of the above requirements and criteria is not submitted with the nomination package, the nomination package will not be considered.

The Honorary Citizen Award Selection Committee evaluates the nominations and makes recommendations for Council.

1.  Those currently holding elected office, or those considering running for elected office in the 2026 local general election will be excluded from nomination
2. Previous recipients are not eligible for nominations except for recipients of the Inspirational Youth category once 10 years had elapsed.

• Ashfield, Mark – community organizer and founder of Superheroes of Victoria
• Bramble, Fiona – building a welcoming and inclusive region for newcomers, founder of Here! Magazine
• Courty-Stephens, Diya – youth leadership, creator of “Neighbourhood Bites”
• Donnelly, Denis – community-building through music, fundraising through the Gettin’ Higher Choir
• Farmer, Terry – community leadership through years of volunteering, and leader in the local business community
• Franny Ladell-Yakelashek – youth leadership, and dedication to environmental rights and protection
• Hunt-Jinnouchi, Fran – leading regional collaboration to end Indigenous homelessness
• Litman, Frances – leader and community champion of environmental sustainability
• Lowe, Alan – community leadership through years of volunteering, and for facilitating strong relationships between community organizations and the Songhees and Esquimalt First Nations
• Reid, Rob – raising funds, awareness and opportunities for physical activity for vulnerable populations
• Robinsong, Siobhan – community-building through music, fundraising through the Gettin’ Higher Choir
• Stockton, Patti  – community leadership through years of volunteering, and dedication to supporting seniors and veterans
• Yakelashek, Rupert – youth leadership, and dedication to environmental rights and protection
