Walking, Riding & Rolling

Walking, riding, rolling and taking public transit are all sustainable transportation options that contribute to a more vibrant and sustainable city.

As of 2022, 33 per cent of trips by residents in the region to, from and within the City are by walking, cycling or rolling. An increase from 22 per cent in 2017, this is one of the highest rates in Canada.

The City continues to improve our streets to make them safer and more enjoyable for walking and rolling. This occurs through large capital projects, development, and annual investments. Every year we invest in:

  • new or upgraded sidewalks and crosswalks
  • public seating
  • accessibility upgrades, e.g., tactile domes, curb ramps and traffic signals
