  • Upgrades to Parking Pay Stations to Accept New, Lighter Coins
    May 8, 2012

The Royal Canadian Mint has recently introduced new, lighter $1 and $2 coins made from multi-ply plated steel rather than nickel. The new coins are not currently accepted by the City of Victoria's computerized parking pay stations.

The City of Victoria has updated its single head parking meters downtown to accept the new, lighter coins.

Upgrades to the City's 264 computerized pay stations located on-street, in the City's parkades and surface parking lots are now underway and are expected to be completed by the end of the month.

Currently, when a new, lighter loonie or toonie is inserted into an electronic pay station, the machine returns it to the customer. This issue is being experienced across the country.

Thank you for your patience as we upgrade the machines.
