Recreation

Recreation in the City of Victoria is offered on the homelands of the Songhees and Esquimalt People.

Thanks for a Great Summer!

This summer, the recreation team transformed Royal Athletic Park into the City’s recreation hub and safely offered a variety of summer camp and adult programs, and drop-in access for the community. Thanks to everyone who came out to help make this season such a success – it is one we will never forget! Below are a few comments people shared about their experience.

“Boot camp at Royal Athletic Park was a fun and challenging way to exercise safely during these strange COVID times. The staff were always friendly, our trainer Chris was awesome, and the venue allowed for a great variety of exercises. Thank you!”

“Our Zumba class was a great way to forget the stress of your day. Lisa had us shimmying and laughing – you couldn't help but leave with a smile!”

“We were very happy that the City adapted to the COVID condition and offered the Royal Athletic Park Outdoor Camps. It was well planned and thought out which made us feel safe having our daughter in the camps even during such sensitive time. Thank you.”

Recreation Recovery Plan

The community has places to play and stay active under the City’s Parks and Recreation COVID-19 Recovery Plan. The plan sets out a phased return to recreation facilities through coordination with the BC Recreation and Parks Association (BCRPA) and continued public health guidance during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Staff are currentlfocusing on creating opportunities for the community at the City’s outdoor recreation facilities, such as playgrounds, sports fields and Royal Athletic Park

Facilities and services listed under Level 1 and Level 2 of the plan are currently operating:

Crystal Pool and Fitness Centre

The Crystal Pool and Fitness Centre will be re-opening in January 2021. Staff are using time during the pool closure to complete repairs to the air handling system. This work was originally scheduled to take place in 2021. However, preliminary testing identified the need to do repairs sooner, so the work will take place this fall and is anticipated to be completed by the end of the year.

Our staff are planning the re-opening as well as continuing to create outdoor opportunities for the community at the City’s playgrounds, sports fields and Royal Athletic Park.
