Since 1937, the City has welcomed the start of summer by hanging flower and plant-filled baskets on downtown lampposts. These iconic baskets are grown and assembled at the Beacon Hill Park Nursery and maintained by City staff over the summer months.
Hanging Basket Donation Program
In fall 2025, funding for Victoria’s hanging basket program was reduced by half. To help keep this beloved tradition blooming across downtown, Destination Greater Victoria (DGV) launched a pilot fundraising program.
This voluntary program gives residents, businesses, and community organizations a chance to help maintain the full display of hanging baskets that brighten our streets each spring and summer.
Donations can be made:
- In-person at DGV’s Visitor Centre (812 Wharf Street)
- In-person at City Hall
- By e-Transfer to hangingbaskets@victoria.ca
