About the Youth Leaders in Training (YLIT) Program: 

The YLIT Program is a leadership development program for youths in Victoria between the ages of 14-18, who are interested in a growth-oriented work experience. The program includes a weeklong training intensive, followed by four weeks of Job Shadow placements in various City of Victoria Day Camps. This program is designed for youth between the ages of 14-18 who are excited at the idea of developing leadership skills while exploring their interest to work in recreation, outdoor education and childcare; all while having an awesome time learning and working at camp! 

Summer 2026 YLIT Program Schedule: 

  • Applications Due: No later than Wednesday, July 1st by 11:45pm. Note: Only successful applicants will be selected to be interviewed, and the application will close once positions are filled.
  • Interviews: Take place virtually at select times between July 2nd - July 16th.
  • Program Enrolment Decision: By Friday July 17th.
  • Youth Leaders Training Intensive: Monday July 27th - Friday July 31st.
  • Job Shadow Placement Week 1: Tuesday August 4th - Friday August 7th.
  • Job Shadow Placement Week 2: Tuesday August 10th - Friday August 14th.
  • Job Shadow Placement Week 3: Monday August 17th - Friday August 21st.
  • Job Shadow Placement Week 4: Monday August 24th - Friday August 28th. 
  • YLIT End of Program Celebration: Friday August 28th, *5:00-6:30pm.

Note: Successful applicants are required to attend the program training and placements dates in their entirety. 

At the end of the program; YLIT participants receive: 

  •  An experience of what it's like to be a Day Camp leader with the City of Victoria
  • Leadership and job readiness skills
  • A Certificate of Completion from the program
  • A reference letter for their time in Job Shadow Placements
  • $600 honourarium for the completion of the program
