Victoria is a vibrant city that hosts a wide range of events from major festivals and sporting events to community block parties and weddings.
If you plan to host an event in a City‑owned public space, you must apply for the appropriate event permit.
How It Works
1. Check what type of event you’re hosting
The Event Permit Application covers:
- Block parties
- Cameron Bandshell events
- Special events (all other public events and locations)
For any private gathering in a park where the public is not invited (e.g., wedding, birthday party) visit the Park Event Permits page.
2. Plan ahead
Most events need time to review and approve.
- Four to six weeks’ notice for most events
- Eight or more weeks’ notice if your event includes road closures or multi‑day park use
Event permits are usually issued when all key event details have been provided by the event organizer and reviewed by City staff.
3. Apply online
When you’re ready, submit your Event Permit Application online.
4. Get insurance
All events need insurance which can be purchased when the event has been approved.
Minimum $5 million liability coverage
The City of Victoria must be named as additional insured on the policy
Proof of insurance is due at least two weeks before your event
You can use your own insurance provider or arrange coverage through Instant Risk.
5. Check sound requirements
If your event includes amplified sound, a Noise Bylaw Exemption is required.
- For events in City‑owned public spaces, this is included in the Event Permit Application
- Events on private property need a separate Noise Bylaw Exemption application
- Nearby residents and businesses must be notified in advance
