City Council has approved $150,000 in annual funding grants to continue activating the Victoria Music Strategy and invest in Victoria’s music ecosystem. These funds will support innovative projects to make Victoria a dynamic music hub and a global music destination.
Funding will support the music sector to leverage what currently exists in the local music community and address gaps such as affordable spaces for music production, rehearsal and performances. Eligible applicants can apply for up to $50,000 per organization, for one project per year. Projects need to address one of the following priorities:
1. Connecting People and Spaces: Create Space for Music (up to $50,000)
2. Nurture the Talent: Support Musicians and Music Organizations (up to $15,000)
3. Grow the Audience: Everyday Musical Encounters (up to $10,000)
4. Creative License: Create Music Friendly Policies and Regulations (up to $15,000)
5. Be-Future Ready: Music Innovation and the Creative Economy (up to $25,000)
Musicians and music sector professionals, in collaboration with a not-for-profit organization, are invited to apply. Interested organizations and music industry representatives can register for an online information session on Wednesday, May 8 at 7 p.m. This session will be recorded and available on the City’s website for those who are unable to attend.
The Victoria Music Strategy outlines the role of music in Victoria and includes a series of recommendations to grow the music sector. It identifies opportunities for the City to reinforce the uniqueness of Victoria's music scene, through supporting our infrastructure, spaces and talent. The Strategy encourages everyday musical encounters and prioritizes access and support for under-represented communities to nurture this talent and share culturally diverse music practices.
The grant program aligns with the City’s 2023-2026 Strategic Plan’s Arts, Culture, Music, Sport and Entertainment strategic priority, the Create Victoria Arts and Culture Master Plan and the Victoria Music Strategy.
The deadline for applications is 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2024.
