On Thursday, October 19 at 10:19 a.m., join millions of people worldwide to Drop, Cover, and Hold On for two minutes during Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills.

The City of Victoria is proud to be participating in the annual drill and encourages Victoria households, schools, businesses, organizations and media to sign up online to participate at ShakeOutBC.ca.

Victoria has a one-in-three probability of a damaging earthquake in the next 50 years and we need to be prepared. The Great British Columbia ShakeOut is an annual opportunity to practise how to be safer during big earthquakes.

Drop, Cover and Hold On! means:

DROP to the floor (before the earthquake drops you)
Take COVER under a desk or sturdy piece of furniture and protect your head and torso
HOLD ON to the piece of furniture until the shaking stops (once the shaking stops count to 60 before you get up to allow things to settle)
Free Emergency Preparedness Workshops
This fall, register to participate in a free VictoriaReady Emergency Preparedness Workshop to learn how to prepare for emergencies, make a plan, get your kit together and connect with your neighbours. We want you to be prepared to support your household for a minimum of seven days.

The workshops will be offered at the new Victoria Fire Department Headquarters at 1025 Johnson Street from 7-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, October 26 and November 23.
