Equity Framework
Council endorsed an Equity Frameworkto guide program and policy design and implementation at the City to ensure that underserved and marginalized populations are experiencing the same benefits and outcomes as the general population. The Framework is a high-level foundation with pillars that provide direction on where to focus effort. It provides the overarching context for a number of existing City strategies and action plans and lays the foundation for understanding intersectionality, equity and social justice, and is grounded in the following guiding principles: decolonization, anti-racism, disability justice, gender diversity and dignity.
Bylaw for Accessible Parking Requirements; Zoning Bylaw Amendments
Council has approved amendments to the City’s Zoning Bylaw for new and increased supply rates and design requirements for off-street accessible parking stalls for private development.
2021 Annual Report
Council received the City’s 2021 Annual Report for information. The report provides an overview of the major achievements and significant projects completed during the past year, as well as detailed financial statements.
2022 Strategic Plan Grant Applications
The City of Victoria awarded grants totalling $512,000 to 67 local community organizations through the annual Strategic Plan Grant program. These grants help advance the City’s strategic objectives to improve the quality of life for residents of Victoria and to continue to build community resilience to respond to future challenges. This year’s funding increased by $39,500 over the past year.
Council Member Motion: Advocacy for Restoration of Three-Year Terms of Local Government Office
Council has endorsed a resolution for consideration at the 2022 annual convention of the Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM), and has directed staff to forward electronic copies to the UBCM and member local governments, requesting favourable consideration and resolutions of support: That UBCM calls on the Government of British Columbia to introduce legislation to restore three-year terms of local government office.
