VICTORIA, B.C. — The nomination period for people wanting to run in the City of Victoria’s 2026 Local Government Election will open tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 9 a.m. and will close on Friday, Sept. 11 at 4 p.m.

The nomination period for people wanting to run in the City of Victoria’s 2026 Local Government Election will open tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 9 a.m. and will close on Friday, Sept. 11 at 4 p.m.

Potential candidates can pick up a mayor or councillor nomination package in person at the Legislative Services office at Victoria City Hall, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or access it online at victoria.ca/election.

Nomination packages for school trustee are available through the Greater Victoria School District at sd61.bc.ca.

Completed nomination packages can be submitted in person at the Legislative Services office at Victoria City Hall or by email during the nomination period. Appointments are strongly recommended for in-person visits. To schedule an appointment to submit a nomination package, call 250.361.0571 or email elections@victoria.ca.

Only eligible candidates who have filed all the required documents and paid the $100 nomination deposit by the close of the nomination period will be included on the ballot.

General Voting Day will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. All municipalities and electoral areas in B.C. will be holding local government elections on the same day.  

Eligible Victoria voters will have the opportunity to elect:  

  • One Mayor
  • Eight Councillors
  • Three CRD Directors
  • Two School Trustees (Greater Victoria School District 61)

The ballot will also include the non-binding question: Do you support Saanich and Victoria becoming one municipality?
