The City’s poet laureates will conclude their terms with a final reading at Thursday’s Council meeting. The City has been honoured to have John Barton as Victoria’s Poet Laureate (2019-2022) and Eli Mushumanski as Victoria’s Youth Poet Laureate (2022).
They were both nominated to serve as literary and cultural ambassadors. During their terms, they have written new poetry and hosted readings and literary events. John has hosted Poetry at the Cathedral, Wilde about Sappho and events to celebrate other local authors. Eli hosted The Poetry of Plants, Youth Poets Read and held youth poetry workshops.
The City thanks both John and Eli for sharing their many talents with Victoria.
