Safety First in Victoria’s Work Zones

Slow down, stay alert and follow directions from crews and signs around construction sites to keep workers safe.

Repairs and upgrades to roads, underground utilities and public spaces support Victoria’s growing population, improve resilience to climate events and maintain essential services. To mark Construction Safety Week, the City is reminding road users that we all share a responsibility for safety in work zones.

"Every day, our employees are working to keep the city running smoothly,” said Jason Adair, Manager of Civic Services. “When drivers slow down and pay attention in work zones, it helps protect us and ensures we go home to our families at the end of the day.”

To better protect roadside workers and prevent tragic incidents, the City has strengthened its traffic management procedures, triggering more frequent road closures. While the City is always working to minimize disruptions to the public, these new safety procedures mean road users may encounter more detours and traffic impacts than in the past.
