Residents can support local cafés, reduce waste and win big prizes this October as the City of Victoria's reuse stamp card contest returns for its third year.
The month-long campaign encourages residents to bring a reusable cup when purchasing beverages at participating cafés throughout Victoria. Building on the success of the previous two contests, this year's campaign features more than 35 participating businesses and a range of prizes, including a custom bike build from Recyclistas, spa passes from Destination Greater Victoria, gift cards from the Downtown Victoria Business Association and various zero waste prize packs.
Residents can pick up a wallet-sized stamp card from participating businesses or City Hall. Each time they use a reusable cup at a contest location during October, they will receive a stamp. Every stamp counts as an entry into the prize draw, with additional stamps increasing the chances of winning.
“We'd love to see bringing a reusable cup become the standard,” says Ed Cunningham, owner of Little June. “That's why we're proud to support this campaign. It shines a light on a simple habit that many people already practice and hopefully brings a few more people along with it.”
The campaign complements Victoria's Single-Use Items Reduction Bylaw, which requires restaurants and cafés to service customers dining on-site with reusable food service ware.
