Project scope
Upgrades will include road paving and maintenance, protected bike lanes, accessibility improvements, intersection safety upgrades and a new traffic signal at Blanshard and Pembroke Street. Work is expected to be completed in summer 2026.
Why now?
This work aligns with the City’s 2023-2026 Strategic Plan priorities to expand the AAA bike and roll network and improve the “moving experience” of pedestrians, mobility device users and the public generally. The corridors identified for this work are some of the highest collision corridors in the city, and the improvements will help move Victoria towards its goal of eliminating traffic-related deaths or serious injuries.
Expect Delays for Blanshard Paving Work
Blanshard Street will be closed temporarily for paving and milling work. Schedule below:
- March 21-24: Northbound Blanshard St. (Caledonia Ave. to Bay St.) *Note: On March 21 and 24 the closure will start at Fisgard St.
- March 28-31: Southbound Blanshard St. (Caledonia Ave. to Bay St.)
Detour routes will be in place. Work will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is weather dependent; it may be delayed by cold or wet conditions. Expect intermittent sidewalk closures. Cyclists will be asked to dismount and walk when crossing Blanshard St.
Project Impacts
While work is underway, you can expect the following temporary impacts:
- Lane closures, traffic disruptions and detours
- Construction noise, dust and odours
