Project scope
The City of Victoria will be making upgrades to the Point Ellice Bridge (Bay Street Bridge). Work includes replacing the main deck joint that allows the bridge to expand and shrink with temperature changes. Crews will also be improving the 65-year-old drainage system. This project is scheduled to start on February 17, 2026, and is expected to take four months to complete.
Why now?
Servicing critical infrastructure in a timely manner reduces future maintenance costs and preserves the life of the bridge.
Project impacts
While work is underway you can expect the following impacts:
• Eastbound traffic across the bridge (Victoria West towards downtown) will be closed 24/7 for up to four months. Detours with clear signage will guide eastbound traffic.
• Eastbound cyclists can dismount and walk with pedestrians to cross eastbound.
• Westbound traffic will remain open, and pedestrian and wheelchair access will be maintained at all times.
• Construction noise.
