Victoria Day Parade: What You Need to Know

The Victoria Day Parade will make its way through downtown on Monday, May 18, celebrating 126 years of community spirit and cultural pride.   

When: Monday, May 18, 9 a.m.

Where: The parade begins at the B.C. Legislature, travels along Government Street, Wharf Street, lower Johnson Street and ends near Centennial Square.  

Road closures:

Parade route closures (8 a.m. to noon):

  • Government Street (Humboldt to Superior St. closes at 6:30 a.m.)
  • Government Street (Johnson to Bay St.)
  • Wharf Street 
  • Lower Johnson Street

Roads will reopen once the parade has passed and it is safe to do so.

Inner Harbour and James Bay:

  • Roads around the Inner Harbour and B.C. Legislature, except Superior Street, will be closed from 6:30 a.m. to noon
  • Access to and from James Bay will be maintained via Superior Street
  • BC Transit will continue service via Superior Street
  • The BC Transit exchange at the Legislature will be closed from 6:30 a.m. to noon

Bridges:

  • Johnson Street Bridge will be closed to westbound vehicle traffic from 8 a.m. to noon and remain open for eastbound traffic travelling toward downtown and people walking and cycling
  • Point Ellice Bridge will be limited to westbound traffic only, as currently in place 

Traffic impacts:

  • Drivers should expect congestion and delays throughout the morning. 

Travel options:

If you can, walk, bike or take the bus to the parade.

If driving is necessary:

  • Plan ahead and allow extra travel time
  • Parking will be free at City parkades and on-street meters
