This year's Emergency Preparedness Week theme is "In it together,” highlighting that strong, connected communities bounce back faster and are more resilient after emergencies.
When emergencies happen, we’re all in it together. Getting to know your neighbours now can make all the difference. When disaster strikes, the most immediate help will come from those around you – your neighbours.
Here are some ways to build connections and boost your community’s readiness:
- Book a free neighbourhood or building emergency preparedness workshop
- Create a neighbourhood map — include emergency meeting places, people with pets, skills, resources and those who may need extra help
- Start a tool library to share every day and in emergencies
- Buy emergency kits and supplies in bulk to save money
- Host a block party and share preparedness tips and resources
