The bike share operator, Lime, is installing e-bike share parking zones on streets in Victoria.
Work is expected to start in July 2026 and continue throughout the summer and fall. Construction on each space is expected to take about one day.
Why now?
A new e-bike share system is coming in summer 2026, giving people another way to get around without a car.
At designated parking zones across the City, easy-to-ride e-bikes and helmets will be available to rent through an app.
The locations and design of the parking zones are approved by the City and informed by feedback from the public and key stakeholders, as well as best practices from other bike share systems.
Project Impacts
While work is underway, you can expect the following temporary impacts:
Changes to parking
Noise, dust, debris and odours
There will also be long-term changes to street parking in some locations.
Locations
Staff are planning bike share parking zones one neighbourhood at a time. As locations are confirmed, they will be added to this list and interactive map. Parking zones will usually be the size of one parking space.

FAQ
Bike share aligns with the City’s goals around mobility, sustainability and equity. It provides more affordable and clean transportation options for residents as well as visitors.
Staff are planning for a bike share launch in summer 2026. We will work closely with the operator, Lime, and adjust timelines as needed to support a successful system.
The City has selected Lime for Victoria’s e-bike share system, following a competitive procurement process.
Over 40 cities in Canada have already implemented bike share, scooter share or both, including many in Metro Vancouver and on Vancouver Island. These other examples provide lessons learned and best practices for implementation in Victoria.
Victoria has also been building an extensive network of All Ages and Abilities bike routes which will better support newer and less comfortable riders using bike share. Cycling in Victoria has also grown in popularity in recent years and Victoria now has one of the highest levels of cycling of any city in Canada, making it an ideal place for bike share.
E-bikes are more accessible to a wider range of ages and abilities than non-electric pedal bikes, and they make cycling trips more feasible over longer distances for many people.
Shared e-bikes also solve concerns around upfront costs or secure bike parking availability that prevent people from purchasing their own e-bikes, allowing people to pay per one-way trip. Shared e-bikes are proving to be more popular than classic bikes in bike share systems.
At this point, the City is looking at an e-bike share system only. Staff are monitoring policy and technology developments with shared e-scooters and could consider recommending them in the future.
Yes, the plan is to provide parking zones about every two to three blocks across Victoria. We are planning and building parking zones in phases, starting in James Bay, Downtown, Victoria West, Burnside, North Park and Hillside Quadra, with more becoming available over time.
Residents and businesses in the immediate vicinity will be notified about a week before parking zone installation.
In this first phase, Lime is installing about 110 parking zones across James Bay, Downtown, Victoria West, Burnside, North Park and Hillside Quadra, with more to come later in 2026 and future years.
The plan is to provide about 200 parking zones across Victoria, with a parking zone about every two to four blocks across the city.
The locations and design of the parking zones are informed by feedback from the public and key stakeholders, City policies, as well as best practices from other bike share systems.
This includes locating parking zones:
Near our All Ages and Abilities bike routes
Close to key destinations
At visible, easy-to-access spaces (such as near intersections)
In August and September 2025, the City conducted engagement about the e-bike share system to understand where potential users wanted to see bike share parking zones in Victoria.
In summer and fall 2025, the City conducted targeted engagement with key groups, including through the City’s Accessibility Advisory Committee, Welcoming City Advisory Committee and Youth Council and engaged directly with members of the business and tourism community. The City also invited the public to suggest parking zone locations online through Have Your Say.
Staff have used this feedback to help inform the parking zone locations.
Once bike share parking zone locations are planned, nearby residents and businesses will receive advance notice of any changes to the street.
