To mark National AccessAbility Week, the City has released a new accessibility compliance guide to help ensure programs, services and spaces are inclusive and meet the Accessible B.C. Act.

The Guide on Compliance builds on the City’s existing accessibility work and outlines how provincial requirements are being met in practice. This work supports a more accessible city by removing barriers and enabling people – especially those with disabilities – to participate fully in community life.

It was developed with input from the Accessibility Advisory Committee, City staff and community partners, reflecting local lived experience and expertise.

According to the 2022 Canadian Survey on Disability, 40 per cent of Victoria residents identify as having one or more disabilities. These disabilities, include a range of physical, mental and other health-related conditions that interact with barriers to prevent full participation in our community.
