Greenhouse Gases

The City of Victoria has committed to cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 50 per cent by 2030, compared to 2007 levels. The City is also aiming to shift to 100 per cent renewable energy by 2050. Reaching these targets requires bold action.

As of 2023, emissions have dropped by 31 per cent from 2007. Another 19 per cent reduction is needed to reach the 2030 goal.

CDP Reporting

CDP, formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project, manages a global system in which cities and businesses can share information about their greenhouse gas emissions. The City of Victoria has been a participant since 2014, reporting its emissions to CDP as required by the Global Covenant of Mayors.

In 2019, Victoria received an ‘A’ grade for its efforts in fighting climate change. A-list cities like Victoria are leading the way in reducing carbon emissions while ensuring their communities remain prosperous places to live and work.
